Job Requirements/Description

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mental Health Social Worker to join Sheffield City Councils mental health portfolio to work into the Forensic Social Work Team. This small specialist team is close-knit and mutually supportive, providing a Social Work service to individuals with serious mental health conditions and offending histories in a variety of settings.

The nature of the work, whilst at times challenging, is also stimulating and rewarding, offering insight into the interplay between people experiencing mental illness and the criminal justice system. Working alongside Health and Criminal Justice, this is an excellent opportunity to practice a wide range of social work skills and gain broad experiences, whilst forming part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team. The role encompasses the provision of client care and public protection through:

  • Social Supervision of Conditionally Discharged patients in the community;
  • Liaison with the Ministry of Justice;
  • Provision of Social Circumstances reports for and attendance of Mental Health Review Tribunals;
  • Attendance of regular meetings in both secure and open inpatient settings, locally and nationally;
  • Risk assessment and risk management skills;
  • Social Care assessments and reviews;
  • S42 Safeguarding responsibilities;
  • Mental Capacity Act assessments and Court of Protection work.

The successful applicant will be dedicated, passionate, dynamic and autonomous, a team player with organizational skills and emotional resilience. Strong Social Work values, anti-oppressive practice and a commitment towards recovery and rehabilitation are crucial in this role, as is the ability to travel. In return, you will receive Continuous Professional Development, regular supervision, and  support and learning opportunities from a motivated and committed team.
