Job Requirements/Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Works Manager to lead a small CNC production team. This is a critical role responsible for driving efficiency, managing production processes, and contributing to the overall success of the business. As Works Manager you will be a key player in daily operations, working closely with the shop floor and the wider team. You'll have the opportunity to make a significant impact on operations and contribute directly to the businesses success. Works Manager - Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Drawing and Quoting: Accurately read engineering drawings and prepare competitive quotes. This is a primary function of the role and crucial for securing new business.

  • Job Booking and Planning: Efficiently book out jobs once confirmed and manage work planning to ensure smooth production flow.

  • Hands-on Production Support: Possess a hands-on approach and, ideally, a background on the shop floor for a subcontract CNC production facility.

  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong communication between the management team and the shop floor, facilitating daily discussions on production schedules and priorities.

  • Lean Management Implementation: Lead initiatives to move the business forward with lean management principles, focusing on improving efficiency and optimizing production processes.

  • Supplier and Subcontractor Liaison: Travel to and manage relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Quality Control: Play a role in maintaining and improving quality standards across production.

  • Accountability: Take full ownership of responsibilities and drive tasks to completion.

Works Manager - What We're Looking For:

  • Proven technical ability, with experience in machining and a comprehensive understanding of the production process.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

  • Experience in estimating and pricing jobs, understanding the impact on profitability.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with all levels of staff and external partners.

  • A proactive and hands-on approach to problem-solving and process improvement.

  • A commitment to accountability and taking initiative.

  • Flexibility to handle a varied workload that includes quoting, booking out, and external visits.
