Overview Our client is looking to appoint a skilled Design Manager with proven experience in delivering projects within the UK water sector. This position suits an individual with a strong ability to lead multidisciplinary design teams, manage technical risks, and ensure compliance and quality across all project stages in a dynamic, delivery-driven environment.
You will play a key role in supporting a portfolio of ongoing and upcoming water infrastructure projects. Working in close collaboration with delivery teams, clients, and the extended design supply chain, you will help drive project success from early-stage concept design through to construction and handover.
Key Responsibilities - Coordinate multidisciplinary internal engineering teams and liaise effectively with external consultants across multiple live projects
- Take ownership of the design process on complex infrastructure projects, ensuring all outputs are technically accurate, meet safety and regulatory standards, and are delivered in line with programme requirements.
- Manage design programmes to align with key project milestones and client deliverables, adjusting schedules as needed to meet evolving priorities.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate design-related risks while ensuring full regulatory and statutory compliance.
- Monitor and report on the financial performance of the design phase, ensuring alignment with allocated budgets and cost plans.
- Evaluate technical submissions from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quality, technical integrity, and specification compliance.
- Work closely with pre-construction and estimating teams to support bid preparation and accurately scope design deliverables.
- Strategically allocate design resources based on project complexity, team workload, and specialist requirements.
- Maintain the Design Risk Register, ensuring it reflects current project risks and mitigation measures throughout the design lifecycle.
- Act as a key point of contact for client-side stakeholders, ensuring design solutions are aligned with operational objectives and long-term project goals.
Desired Skills -
Demonstrable experience in Design & Build delivery within the water industry

Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering disciplines.

Comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders.

Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
